Southern States Regional 2023

Team Figment had a fantastic time at Southern States! After missing one of our favorite shows in 2022, we were happy to be back this year!

Thanks to a very unusual winter and spring in which Jen couldn’t ride, the horses were not quite as fit as they would usually be, but everyone did very well despite the circumstances. This was a show with a lot of firsts! Battersea Zipper (“Zipper”) competed under saddle for the first time. Figment Ready Player One (“Artemis”) went to her first long away show – she has been to Dressage at Devon, but it’s not as long as Southern States!

HJA Sundust (“Jimmy”) and Blitzen Golden Legacy (“Clara”) were back to a very familiar show for them, and both were fantastic. Clara was this year’s champion in Intro level classical dressage, and had her first Training Level test! Jimmy was reserve champion at Training Level after two very nice tests. Zipper, in her first time in the dressage ring, was reserve champion in Intro behind Clara! All three horses had nice scores in the mid-to-upper 60s.

All three horses competed over fences, with Jimmy earning the Suitable Hunter champion, and Zipper right behind him for reserve! We were so pleased with Zipper in her first outing under saddle. Artemis competed in several in-hand classes, winning the Ranch Horse in-hand, as well as Ranch Trail classes. Everyone also earned nice scores in the low-to-mid 70s on the triangle for Sport Horse In-hand.

It was a great time visiting with friends, enjoying beautiful weather – it is usually boiling hot in Raleigh in May. Many thanks to Katie for riding/and showing all of the horses while Jen continued to recover from back surgery.

We can’t wait for 2024 Southern States!
